Importing DGN Files

I am trying to import a dgn file into 3D and was wondering why 3D will not allow me to do so. I type -dgnimport, select the file, and then I wait for it to load the file, but it just seems to crash.

Seems to crash? Does it crash? or does it just never finish?

Is the DGN the wrong format?
Is the DGN file corrupt?
Your C3D version as listed in ABOUT command is...?
Has someone else in your office try to import the file?

Can you share the DGN file here?

DGN file just never seems to finish opening.

Don't believe the DGN file is the wrong format.

Wish I could share the file here, but dgn file type is not supported in this forum.

Just place a .txt on the end of the file name and send it.

@LarryS23,
"...dgn file type is not supported in this forum."
As Bill says to do, or Zippola. This Forum will accept pretty much anything as long as it's zipped.

@pendean

Can I ask what version of software you're using?

I'm having similar issue.

Can I  examine a .dgn file without Microstation?

I have received 4 No large .dgn files (140-300MB).

I'm using Civil 3D 2018 which won't DGNIMPORT any of them - I get 'Internal Error' message. I'm using standard / default settings.

I can XRef them all in but see nothing - ULAYERS brings up the .dgn layers (all are on) but alas I can't see anything, even zooming right in, right out - nadda... confusing.

Would a 2020 .dgn display in Civils 2018, could there be an issue with backward compatibility between the 2 systems?

Thanks for your help / time.

@jim.poole I believe the screenshot was from 2019: share one of your problem DGN files here for someone to try and make sure the issue is not the DGN files themselves.

There are lots of free services to share huge files on the web if you don't already use OneDrive or DropBox or the like.

TIA

Try changing your background color. Sometimes the linework is there but it is close to the same color as the background so you can't see it. Also try QSELECT and see if it finds anything.
