Import 12D Drainage Network to Civil 3D 2020 through 12D Data Extension

Hello,

I'm trying to import a 12D drainage network to C3D through '12D Data Extension'. I'm using C3D 2020 ANZ and we have built a number of 'part catalog' pits through 3d inventor based on standard drawings from local authorities.

The pipes can be transferred to C3D with correct size, but we are having trouble to assign right pit type into C3D (there is no tick box to assign the right pit type).

Could anyone please tell me if it is feasible to assign the right pit types in C3D through the 12D Extension? Thanks!

Ryan, are you able to share your 12da file?

Thanks for your reply. Please find attached the .12da file.
we are trying to assign correct pit types from 12d to c3d. I updated the pipe network setting to "Use Size Name From Parts List As description" (please refer to below image) and then imported the c3d drainage network from a .12da file (please refer to attached file).

The imported drainage network in c3d has the correct description shown in the structure properties, but the actual pit type is still the default 300 dia one(see image below).

Thanks I'll take a look. Could you upload those images again? The links are not working.

Oh, hang on - 12da file link doesn't work either. Try zipping it.

I have taken a look at your data. Unfortunately, it's only possible to assign a single part size to all structures in a imported drainage string.

From the docs: "For structures, the selected part size is assigned to every structure generated in the current import session."

The only thing I can suggest which might help a little is:

1) Turn off the "Use Size Name from Parts List As Description" option in the Civil 3D Feature Settings tab.

2) Use the "assign 12d pit attributes to structures" option in the import panel to assign one of the dimensional attributes of the pit to the description of the Civil 3D structure.

At least then you would be able to review the resulting structures in Civil 3D by their description to try to work out which part sizes to manually apply where.

That's admittedly not a great solution for pipe network of this size, but in the meantime it is also probably worth putting in an enhancement request to Autodesk to see if the pit assignment logic in this panel could be further improved.
