IFC4x3 Export Issue – File Appears in Wrong Location Despite Correct Base Point in Civil 3D

Hi everyone,

I’ve encountered a strange issue while exporting a Civil 3D file to IFC4x3 format. I’ve already set the base point correctly, and everything looks perfectly aligned within Civil 3D. However, once I export the file to IFC, the resulting model appears in the wrong location when viewed in other software.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Is there a known workaround or setting I might be missing during export?

Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Hello!

The misalignment you're experiencing when exporting a Civil 3D file to IFC4x3 is a known issue. It often happens because the export process fails to properly align the model's coordinate system with a common origin for the IFC viewer. To fix this, you can edit the IfcInfraConfiguration.json file to set "ProjectBasePointOnRootPlacement" to true, which forces the IFC file to use the correct project base point. Other workarounds include manually moving the "IFC Project basepoint" Cogo point to 0,0 in your drawing or ensuring a formal coordinate system is assigned to the file before export.  www mymilestonecard com
