How to turn off or freeze a layer in model space, but turned on in a specific Viewport.

I have a layer (Captured Area map from Geolocation) I need turned on in a Paper space Viewport. However when it is on in Model space it occludes my work area so i would prefer it stay off in Model space. I am looking for a way to turn off or freeze this layer in Model space, while also keeping that layer visible in a Paper space viewport. This is a pretty standard option with Bentley products so was thinking there must be an Autodesk equivalent. I tried to CHSPACE but the Aerial imagery from Geolocation cant be manipulated as far as i can tell. Any advice?

Use layer states to quickly change the layer status of multiple layers.

With images I keep them on and use the image manager (classicimage) and unload them until I need them. You can use the xref manager but I think its more clunky for just images. I keep my imageframe to 2. Can see the frame but the frame will not plot. I still use the VPlayers but you need to be aware to have the image loaded before you plot. Since images are in just about every drawing I find this to be the best way to deal with them. We have a rule to unload all images when closing a drawing. Some can be very large and take forever to open when you open the dwg.  Sometime we will even put all images into a dwg and then xref that dwg in.

In paperspace double click inside the viewport to make it active.  Now go to the layer manager, select the layer and then right click to open up the menu shown below.  Choose VP layer freeze and then In All Viewports Except Current.

When you're in an active viewport you get additional options (note the additional VP columns in the layer manager) than in model space that allow you to choose specific things for that viewport.

This doesn't appear to turn off the image in Model space.

By adding my imagery layer to a layer state, it will allow me to freeze the layer in model space while keeping it thawed in a VP?

This is similar to our current workflow, but it seems like an unnecessary step and often leads to needing to reprint if the layer is left off. Bentley products have no issue with this so i was looking for a similar functionality in C3D.

Pros and Cons to both software. You could look for it or add it in the Ideas. I would give you a vote.

Try this for your aerial layer.

And you can use the layers off tool bar. First use the layoff command and go to settings then Viewports and set it to Vpfreeze.

Did you ever figure out a solution here? I am having the same issue. I would like to have the GeoMap Image only show up in viewport and not model space.

Layer Off is globally off.

There is no intended way to show a Layer (with the geomap image) only in a specific viewport.

Two Workarounds.

a) create a "work" viewport in a "work" layout tab and VPLAYER Freeze the specific layer. Then use VPMAX.

b) better use 90% transparency for the layer (it is nearly off then) and overwrite the transparency for this layer to 0 in viewport.
