How to Import shapefiles using MAPWSPACE

I need to import a shape file using MAPWSPACE so it shows the attributes of a stream. I can do it using MAPIMPORT, but it doesn't give me the attributes this way.

This should help - from Autodesk Knowledge Network.

To import the shape files

  1. In Autodesk Map, start a new work session.
  2. On the Map menu, click Tools > Import.
  3. In the Import dialog box, select ESRI Shape, and then browse to the shape file you would like to import. Click OK.
  4. In the Import dialog box, click the Data field.
  5. In the Attribute Data dialog box, select ‘Create Object Data’ for the Attribute Data option, and then select the fields you would like to write to the object data table. (You will use this for labeling).
  6. Click OK to close each dialog box.

To label the features:

  1. In the Map Task Pane, click the Display tab.
  2. On the toolstrip in the Display Manager, click New > Query Current Drawing.
  3. In the Define Query of Current Drawing dialog box, for the Query Type, click Location.
  4. In the Location Condition dialog box, select the All option.
  5. Click OK to close each dialog box. A new element is created in the Display Manager. You can rename this element.
  6. Highlight the Display Manager element.
  7. On the toolstrip, click Add > Text style.  A new text style is created as part of the element and default text labels are placed in the drawing.
  8. In the Display Manager, highlight the new text style.
  9. On the toolstrip, click Properties.
  10. In the Properties palette, under Style Traits, in the Value area where it displays ‘Text Label’, click the [...] button.
  11. In the Expression Chooser dialog box, in the Object Data folder, highlight the field you would like to use to label the features. Click OK.
  12. In the Properties palette, you can also change other properties such as height, rotation, and so on.

On the mapimport dialog, click the field under data and create object data.  If the dataset your shape file comes from included it's data base, you can import it's attributes and that information will be associated with the imported shapefile lines and points.

To add a little bit to what John says, once the shapefile has been imported, in order to see the data, select the object and go into the AutoCAD Properties. Near the bottom of the properties you'll see a section called, "OD:xxxx" where xxxx identifies the source of the data.

If you are wanting to use MapImport Brian has you covered.

Are you wanting to use Mapwspace?

If so you can connect to the Shapefile via the Data icon top left in Mapwspace. Then connect to data.

There are more steps, if you need them I can list them.

Once the objects are in, you can stylize them, add labels or just look at attribute data through the data table or griping the object and using properties.

J,

Lots of good advice here.

When you say "show the attributes", do you mean labeling the stream or labelling data about the stream? Or do you just want to see the data table as when importing the shape with _MAPCONNECT.
