How to deselect

   Hi all,

I have been using CV3D for about 4 years and I still don't know how to deselect items. I just simply clear my selection and start over. I have read about the Shift+left click, and the "R" command but, cant seem to get either one to work. Can someone give me some clarification?

Thanks!

Are you talking about selecting a group of objects while no command is active planning to THEN use a command (such as move) on that selection?  There's no remove option there.

What I typically do when I've selected a bunch of things like that and realize that I need to de-select one or more of them is

  1. Escape out of the selection.
  2. Type in SELECT.
  3. Type in P (for previous).
  4. Type in R (for remove).
  5. Pick the item(s) I want to de-select.
  6. Press ENTER.

Now I've got the selection set that I want and can use the command as I had previously planned.

Yes you're right. That's the situation I'm in. That will work.

Thanks so much for your help!

You all are great.

Here's what I do when I accidentally select too many things (be it by a window or a crossing window, or just left-clicking).

Hold down the SHIFT key, and while holding, left-click with the cursor pick box over the entity you want to un-select.  You may also hold the SHIFT key and use a window or a crossing window to un-select objects.  Any entity you pick while holding the SHIFT key is removed from your selection set.

I was accustomed to this deselection method, after using a window selection, it no longer works and I haven't found the fix. This was true for me in 2016 C3D and now 2018 C3D

Odd.  I just tried it (C3D 2018 SP1) and it worked fine for me.

Type MAPIOPTIONS. That's the command for Map Image Options.

Go to the General tab, turn off the option to Shift +Left Click Image Select. This will restore your ability to Shift + Left Click to remove objects while building your selection set. One caveat:  You will lose the ability to Shift + Left click to select an image without having to zoom out and select it on an outer edge.

This setting does not affect you if you are not using images.

I tried going to MAPIOPTIONS and removing the check mark on “Shift+Left Click Image Select,” but it still doesn’t let me deselect by holding shift and left clicking. I do not know how to fix this super useful tool.

If there are stacked objects, it won't work. Be sure you turn on SelectionCycling so you know.
