How to combine two curves into one compound curve?

Hi all,

I am relatively new to using Civil 3D. I am attempting to draw a compound curve. I have created an alignment from objects, with the objects being 3 lines - the tangent of the first curve, the common tangent, and the tangent of the second curve. I then added two curves to this alignment, of 80ft and 150ft respectively. Visually, this curve and alignment is correct. The labeled stationings are correct. However, I am wondering if there is a way to combine these two curves into one continuous curve. Right now, the PT label of the first curve overlaps the PC label of the second curve. Ideally I'd like this to just be one label that says PCC. And also ideally, reducing the two PI's, one PI for each curve, into one shared PI.

Thanks!

If you keep your alignments the same as you have them you will need to change the radius of one or possibly both curves by a "smidgeon" to get the PT and PC either at the same location or a short alignment between.

In your case I think a little trial and error should work.

Hi,

I hope your alignment is ok and it has no tangency violations.

To make one curve instead of two you can follow this method.

Select alignment

Go to geometry editor

Using the tools delete the middle three sub entities (curve-tangent-Curve)

Then connect the two tangents with a free curve using either free curve fillet radius or free curve fillet through point.

The following video will give some guidance on alignment creation tools.

Thanks

Old School! If all you have done is create the alignment, then I would just use basic AutoCAD to draw what you want and recreate the alignment. If you have a good understanding of curves then its pretty easy and straight forward. I'm all for using the software, but when it comes to curves two tangents and the fillet command is still my go to.
