How do I remove this data link reference? Orig. data link was removed already

Working in this drawing, some drawing files were copied over from another project, and for some reason this one had a data link in it to a table that is no longer in the drawing. I removed the original data link but I have this hanging reference that says "Not Found" in my xref box. Closed the drawing and reopened and it's still there. Is there any way to get rid of this?

Have you tried using the DATALINK command?  If you see the reference there you can right click on it and delete it.

As I said, I deleted the data link already.

Hi @Anonymous

Just wondering by saying “I deleted the data link already” do you mean you deleted the linked table from your drawing or did you actually go to the datalink command where you get to see the data link manager dialog box as @user181 had mentioned?!

if you did delete the link from the data link manager, then I would guess that the table  might still exist in the drawing (granted with nothing in it) so you can’t see it.. may be try qselect and verify than no table exists in the drawing.

purge and audit are always good options as well otherwise wblock the entire drawing and see if that fixes it.

hope this helps,

Not sure how much clearer I can be when I say I deleted the data link...I'm saying that yes, I went to the datalink command and deleted it.

Table is nowhere to be found in the drawing. I ran qselect and see no table in the list of objects.

I found out today when I opened the drawing (after saving and closing yesterday) that the broken datalink was again showing up in the list of datalinks after deleting it yesterday. I have no idea how to get rid of this stupid thing.

If you delete the linked table from modelspace, you'll only being deleting the table and not the link itself. If your table is still in modelspace you'll need to detach the data link first (if it's not in modelspace, go directly to step 2). Select an individual cell in your linked table and there will be green brackets at the four corners of the table. The green brackets indicate a 'linked table.' After selecting an individual cell, right-click and go to Data Links then choose Detach Data Link from the shortcut. After you have detached the link, the brackets will no long appear indicating the table is no longer linked to the source.

First, highlight an individual cell of the table and right-click. You'll need to 'Detach Data Link.' See image-1.

1-Select an INDIVIDUAL cell, right-click, then Detach Data Link.1-Select an INDIVIDUAL cell, right-click, then Detach Data Link.

Next, go to the Data Link Manager. Annotate Tab+>Tables Panel=>Data Link Icon (second from left). See image-2.

2- Go to Annotate Tab=>Tables Panels=>Data Link Icon.2- Go to Annotate Tab=>Tables Panels=>Data Link Icon.

Finally, highlight the named link, right-clicking on it then selecting DELETE. See image-3. (As an alternative to right-clicking, you may also hit the DELETE key after highlighting the named table.)

3-Right-click on the link and select DELETE from shortcut (or hit DELETE key instead of right-clicking).3-Right-click on the link and select DELETE from shortcut (or hit DELETE key instead of right-clicking).

***Be sure to hit OK before exiting the Data Link Manager, otherwise the deletion may not be effective.***.

Hope you understand that people are trying to help you voluntarily, whether myself or @user181 , we are simply suggesting things to try! this is a global community of many people with many different backgrounds and native languages so you can never be too "clear" but you can be a little rude!

Good luck

Once de tables deleted, don't forget to PURGE your drawing if you want to be able to delete de DATALINK the way it is mentioned in all the comments.

If the tables are deleted, do a PURGE before removing the datalinks.
