Why did my hatching all of a sudden start hatching solid instead of a pattern? I can see the pattern through the solid.

You do not give a lot of clues.

After careful examination and consideration, I conclude that Hatches Do Not Like You.

Lesser possibilities to consider include:

  • Hatches default to the previous settings.
Once screwed up, they dutifully remain screwed up.
  • Hatch Scale might be too small.
  • Hatch Line Weight might be too thick.
  • Is the Line weight display on?
  • Examine your hatch settings.
  • If still stuck, post a drawing.

Hey Erik,
"...all of a sudden..."
Anything else happen at that time? Just one drawing or all of 'em?

Hatch Patterns have a Background color setting as well as a Foreground color.

Check that. Worked for me.  And yes, it kind of took over "all of a sudden" as computers are known to do.

If you pasted from another drawing to your drawing, compare drawing scale of dwg#1 with the drawing scale of dwg#2.

It might look solid because the pattern is too dense. Make the hatch scale super large, e.g. 10,000 or 1,000 or 100. Does the pattern appear.
