Hatch patterns not included in acad.pat file but show up in pattern list

I'm trying to get control of our hatch patterns. We use only about 20 different patterns but hundreds show up as options when creating/editing a hatch. Many of the patterns we use are broken and cannot be selected when creating a new hatch, but rather an existing hatch object using the pattern (which is included in our template) has to be copied and edited in order for the hatch pattern to be used in a design.

To get control of our hatch patterns, I thought I could delete the unused patterns from all the *.pat files in support folder paths. I was hoping that when creating a new hatch object I would only see what I left in the .pat files as options, but instead I still see almost a hundred patterns. Many of them did disappear when I deleted them from the .pat file, but many others were not included in any .pat file that I could find to begin with. Also, many of the patterns I left in the .pat file do not show up.

Anybody have ideas as to how I can get AutoCAD and Civil 3D to show all patterns included in the .pat file and only patterns included in the .pat file?

Thanks.

It's be quite a while since I've messed with hatch patterns but I believe there is also a .sld file that shows what the pattern will look like. Ali I believe there are to hatch pattern files. One is the standard acad file and then there is a AEC file.

Thanks @rl_jackson. I wasn't able to find a .sld file but I likely just missed it. I did a work-around for now so this will likely sit until the next time it annoys me.
