Getting a coridor to follow two off set alignments for slope.

The project I am working on, I need to construct a road between two existing curbs. I have the alignment set with the two offset alignments representing the existing curbs. We are going to use the existing grade, slope, gutter, everything on the road. The concrete will be cut out and then re-poured.

 

I need for the assembly to go from one curb to the other, and as the existing elevations change I need the road to change as well. the crown of the road is not consistant. I need this so that I can generate section views of the new road.

 

I have seen this as a possibility:

                 1. add a generic "linkwidthandslope" from the center line to the back of curb point where

                      the slope of the link is controlled by the curb profile.

                  2. add the curb and lane to that, working them back to the centerline.

                  3. once it is working, turn off the display of the generic link.

                  4. repeat for the other side.

 

I understand the concept of what is being said. using the offset alignment and going back to the center to make it work.

 

however, I am pretty new to civil 3d. I am having a hard time actually perfoming the task. I am not sure of all of the commands or how to target these items in order to actually perform the function.

 

In a video "advanced features corridors, assemblies, and the use of targets in civil 3d" by CAD-1 on youtube, the exact thing I am trying to do is addressed at 39 minutes into the video. However, he does the commands so quickly I am unable to follow.

 

If anyone knows of a video or has a more detailed description of how this can be done I would be forever grateful.

All of the steps that you are trying to perform are part of the corridor assembly.  If this is new to you then it's probably easier if you add subassemblies one at a time, and make sure that they're working in your corridor before you move on.

 

  • Starting from a new assembly add a LinkWidthAndSlope to each side.  Set the defaults widths to something large enough so that you'll have room for the other subs that you add later. 
  • Create your corridor, using this new assembly.  Add the offset alignments and curb profiles as targets, then check your corridor sections to make sure that they're working properly.
  • Next you can add the curb subassemblies to the previous subs, and check the corridor again to see what happens.
  • Finally you can add the two lane subs, and set their targets to match the existing centerline and profile.

OK so I have been trying as you have said.

 

using the offset alignments for targets for the width and slope seems to be working beautifully to achieve the outside heights and widths of my corridor.

 

I am having trouble finding how to set the target for an individual sub assembly though. if I can get the lanes targeted on the center alignment it will be doing everything that I need it to do in order to create the section views.

 

Everything I have found online is setting the corridor parameters. I am still looking for setting sub assembly targets, but if you see would you mind a cluing me in? I will continue to look and check back here.

Targeting is all done through the corridor properties dialog.

Keep in mind that there are subassemblies which do not have targeting options.  Check the help file for the lane sub that you're using.
