Hi everyone,

I'm a practicing Civil Engineer (PE) and have been building a collection of free web-based tools to help Civil 3D users, CAD drafters, and civil engineers save time on common design tasks. Most of these are tools I originally built because I found myself repeating the same calculations or CAD workflows over and over.

I'd really appreciate any feedback on the current tools, ideas for improvements, or suggestions for new tools that would make your day-to-day work easier.

You can check them out here: QNLEngineering.com

Current tools include:

  • ADA Ramp & Curb Ramp Design – Live ADA/PROWAG compliance checks with plan, profile, and 3D views.
  • IBC Step Design – Instantly generates compliant stair configurations by sweeping valid riser/tread combinations.
  • Garage Grading – Grades rows of multifamily garages from an access road, including corner elevations and driveway profiles.
  • Retaining Wall Design – Single or terraced retaining walls with geogrid, drainage details, material quantities, and cost estimates.
  • Stockpile Sizer – Calculates stockpile dimensions and volumes with plan, section, and 3D visualization.
  • MHFD Detention Spreadsheet Learning Tool – Interactive, cell-by-cell walkthrough of the MHFD Detention Spreadsheet (v4.08).
  • Driveway Culvert Designer – Checks culvert length, invert elevations, cover, and hydraulic geometry.
  • Texture Fill / Imperviousness Calculator – Reads Civil 3D geometry (via LISP/JSON export) to generate realistic texture fills or calculate hardscape, landscape, and basin imperviousness.
  • Sanitary Service Line Designer – Residential sewer service layout with slope, cover, and cleanout checks.
  • Utilities Along Curves – Verifies utility separation and deflection requirements along curved roadways.
  • Manhole Sizing Calculator – Sizes precast manholes based on incoming pipes, core-hole spacing, depth, and connection requirements, with live plan and unrolled-wall views.
  • AI Plan Review – Upload a plan sheet PDF and automatically identify drafting issues with location markers.
  • Quantity Takeoffs – Counts CAD blocks and summarizes polyline lengths by layer from a Civil 3D JSON export.
  • Colorado Civil Engineering Firms Directory – Searchable directory of approximately 650 civil engineering firms across Colorado.

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Great initiative! Tools built from real-world engineering workflows are often the most useful because they solve actual problems people face every day. Automating repetitive Civil 3D tasks and common calculations can save designers and engineers a lot of time. Thanks for sharing these resources with the civil engineering community!    TPT login
