Formatting dimensions

I am trying to format bearings to the nearest second and distanced to 0.01ft.  I've tried dimstyle - make the changes as wnated but someow it doesn't work.  I get nowhere at all trying to edit label styles.

are you trying to to edit a Civil3d line label style or an autocad dimension style

I am working in C3D and would like to format the dimensions in conformance with standard practice: bearings to whole seconds and length to hundredth of a foot.

you are mixing two different work space setting and they, and I say this loosely, have nothing to do with the other. Either way, they can both be set to do what you are seeking.

DIMSTYLE is an AutoCAD environment setting that only affects AutoCAD dimensions

LABEL STYLES are a civil3d setting that only affect civil3d labels

Keep in mind that all the changes you make will only be in the drawing they modified in. You will want to make the changes in your dwt file so they are there for every new drawing created

I handle dimension as show in this drawing. A(arial)08(size)-P0(precision)-SV(survey)

See attached feel free to edit them to your font style. You can use design center to drag and drop them into drawing/dwt.

@JimJonesPELS

The first file was blank with just the dim styles. This one has them being used. (I took of the kid's gloves 😀)

The procedure doesn't work.  When I get to the Text Component Editor it shows the precision set at 1 minute.  Which isn't true.  It's actually set to 0.01".  When I change precision to 1 second and click apply, it doesn't work.  The change is ignored and precision remains the same.

What am I missing?

Thanks but, I don't recognize anything in the drawing.  I'm working in Civil 3D 2025 and don't know how to get to the formatting in the Dims.drawing.

I understand that formatting works differently in Acad and C3D (see above).

I'm basically trying to understand why it is do difficult to format precisions to the real world.  We don't have the ability measure distances to 0.001 foot or angles to 0.01 seconds and would have no use for the information even if we could.  Calculating in those precisions make sense for rounding etc but, publishing at that level suggest an unprofessional detachment from reality.

Seems to me this should be a straight-forward proposition.  So far it isn't.

Thanks again.

@JimJonesPELS It really is fairly straight forward, you are only missing one step...click the arrow to send the desired setting to the preview screen.
