No compatibility between C3D objects (e.g. profiles, labels, surfaces) in different versions (cynics would suggest that it is a way for Autodesk to "encourage" upgrades/subscription but I couldn't possibly comment on that...!!!). You could explode all the objects but then you lose all the intelligence and they become plain AutoCAD entities (text, blocks etc)
The help files and tutorials are also very good, as is the stuff on AutoDesk University (search for Civil 3D) and the "Mastering Civil 3D 2011" looks useful (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mastering-AutoCAD-Civil-3D-2011/dp/0470884185/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid...)
