Fields in Match Lines

I have a project with a few match lines between several sheets. These are just polylines, with accompanying text. I want to use a field to point to the next or previous drawing in the Sheet Set. I've read that this can be done by using a Formula under the Objects Field Category. The formula would be this:

%</AcSm Sheet.Number>%

That represents the current sheet number, and you can add a +1 or -1 to it for the field to reflect the next or previous sheet number. I tried this, but the field reads "####". I think the problem might be that our sheet numbers have letters in them (C.202 etc.). The sheet numbering system is not under my control. I just want to be sure that's the issue. I know I can select a certain sheet under the SheetSet Field name, I would just rather have it update automatically if sheets get rearranged, etc.

I just did a little test with my current sheets. It works as long as the sheet number is only a number and no letters.

Depending on your use you may be able to separate the C.### sheet number into two separate properties by moving the C. to something like the Sheet Category, Description, or make a custom property for it. This would leave the Sheet Number as just a number.  If you needed to reference the complete sheet number you could use fields for the two properties, one right after the other.

You should be able to create a sheet set subset, call it C, and then use fields to add the subset name in front of the sheet number in the proper location on your sheets. That would allow you to use numeric sheet numbers, but have the C added on the sheet only. That would allow C101, but also allow the adding of numbers within the sheet number.
