Care to share your point file and a screenshot of your "Linework Code Set" and one of your "Figure Prefix Database"?

I second @BrianHailey request, the image is difficult to read the descriptions and without the point file and figure database it's hard to say what you've got going on here.

It looks to me like the linework codes aren't set up properly.  If you have a bunch of points all with the same code for EOP, then C3D will just connect them in the order of the points.

  • But if you have them labeled as EOP1, EOP2, & EOP3 then C3D will see them as separate features.
  • Or instead of adding numbers after the description, you can use B and E modifiers and C3D will know to end one feature and start a new one:

608,988848.8,615736.6,620.1,EOP B
609,988849.4,615775.1,624.1,EOP
610,988836.5,615811.7,628.0,EOP
611,988821.9,615826.4,630.0,EOP E
613,988700.0,615851.0,642.7,EOP B
614,988644.5,615851.6,647.9,EOP
615,988625.7,615852.7,649.9,EOP
616,988594.5,615850.0,651.3,EOP E
634,988500.0,615757.9,627.8,EOP B
635,988805.9,615836.1,632.0,EOP
636,988845.7,615794.2,625.9,EOP
637,988768.5,615849.5,635.8,EOP E

P.S. One benefit of using the numbers with the codes is that they can intermingle.  When you're taking cross section shots, you might have sidewalk, then the other side of the sidewalk, the EOP (right side), crown, and EOP (left side).  All of these could be shot before moving down to the next set of shots.  So they might look like SW1, SW2, EOP1, CRWN, EOP2.  C3D would connect all the EOP2 shots as one string, all the EOP2 shots as another string, etc....

I appreciate your response, what I have noticed is that only my centerline code is coming in with numbers. Everything else seems to not have numbers attached, I am wondering if its the *after the code causing that? I am not sure. . The field crew is saying they are numbering everything so i cannot understand why it is not showing up.  See attached a snip from my point file

It is something with my point file seems to be the issue, the only codes containing numbers are the centerline, I cannot seem to figure out why that is happening. the crew is numbering all of their codes. see attached. Screenshot 2024-07-17 192015.jpg

The number must be placed with the first part of the description.

CL1

EOA1 (left side)

EOA2 (right side)

That's the only way it will work. Not sure what the asterisk is for in the EOA

The numbering of your features (as Rick shows) will only work if you have your Figure Prefix Database set up for those codes. In this example, you can see I "surveyed" the centerline (CL), edge of asphalt (EOA), sidewalk (SW), and flowline (FL) and they have been numbered so each feature is distinct.

My Figure Prefix Database has prefixes for CL, EOA, and FL but not for SW.

When I process import the points into the survey database and process the linework, you'll see I don't get a feature for the sidewalk.

If I want the sidewalk to be included but I don't want to add it to the figure prefix database, I can use the "Begin" code (B in this example) to force a figure at that point.

@doni49 - You don't need to end your figures, you just need to begin the next one.

True.  When I first started with C3D, I was told to enter the ends.  And forgot that you can leave them off.  Good catch.

So I have now discovered that my original issue is from how the points were being exported from our leica collector.

I have exported the points out Using the C3D_PNEZD_LW_ATTRIB. export option, with this i am now i am getting the points in with the line numbers with the codes. But Civil 3d still does not seem to like this as a option and it will not draw the linework correctly. Any ideas?

Lecia does work differently, if you have Leica Infinity, it does a better job of creating the PNEZD file by setting up a custom format for C3D with the linework codes, linework flags (line#) and the linework command (B, E, PC, PT etc.). This took me a little bit to get set up as well.

You'll find that with Leica, it will export all the linework first and then export the points last. Be careful here sometimes it will add the linework codes to the end of the list without the linework information.
