Feature line with Data reference

Hello, I have a work flow where as we create a surface in a grading xref file then use a data reference of that surface into a sheet file. My question: Is there a way to see where the feature lines are in that surface through the data reference. I need to add spots and points at grade breaks and I need to see the feature lines to know where those are.

So is there a way to turn them on somehow?

Thanks,
Greg

Hi @gsdice

There isn't away to data reference Feature Lines or show the Breaklines of the Surface. However, in the Surface Style, if you make visible the Triangles, you can identify where the Breaklines are probably are (you'll notice the triangles will be drawn abutting some linear feature consistently)

You may also temporarily xref the surface drawing as an alternative, but be sure to detach when finished to keep the file clean of duplicate surfaces.

Hope this helps,

This is a good question. I think there should be a way to see vertices in featurelines for this reason and also when editing. I have not  spent time on it but I am thinking there should be a way to do it with the FL style. I know you can label the start and end elevations of a segment. Using that capability should allow a marker of some sort, maybe as simple as a piece of text such as an x or an o.

I took some time to look at this. Using a label style that labels the start and end points works. I used a Capital O for the label. You can experiment with other options. Be aware this is a label style, not a feature line style. There is no option to mark vertices in a featureline style. Also, you would have to XREF the featurelines into your sheets to see the vertices. There is no way to see them in a surface model that I can think of.

I know there are issues with XREF'ing dwgs that have objects that are also in the shortcuts. This workflow may require attaching and detaching the featureline file to synchronize the locations for your labels.

I understand your idea to look at triangles Samir. One problem I see is the triangles may not reflect only the physical vertices and elevation points in a breakline, considering the option to supplement the vertices when adding as a breakline. Did you have something else in mind?
