Extremely new to Civil 3D and need basic assistance with starting an allignment on 2D layout and 3D Topographical Survey

We have recently switched to Civil 3D, as a pose to manually working out levels and drawing kerb lines, as well as contours where we utilise Text boxes and Polylines.

I have been provided with a 3D Topographical Survey, however my Architects Site Layout is obviously in 2D. When trying to draw an Allignment, it will always attach to the 2D Layout, meaning my Allignment never displays any levels. We are extremely new to the software and have only previously used it for displaying contours.

For reference, it is a very simple road, roughly 400m Long with multiple proposed junctions.

If anyone is able to assist me, it would be greatly appreciated.

Alignments are 2d. Once it is created add an existing ground Profile. That is how the alignment gets elevations.

@anthonyYLVRQ     as @Jeff_M said that alignment are 2D (It only 2D), but if you would like to see 3D, then you need to create profile , it can be a surface profile

I'd also suggest a training course to understand how the product works to ensure you get the best out of it.

There is also a 3D representation of a profile that can be displayed at elevation along the alignment. It's call a 3D Chain.

In the Profile Style Dialog Box on the Design Tab you can set the Tessellation distance for the 3D Chain. You can control weather it's displayed or not in the Display Tab.
