Exporting with IFC 4.3 issue - XREF is exported as a block and with distortion

I am trying to export an IFC with the new IFC exporter extension to be able to generate IFC with classes from a Civil3D file and no just "IfcBuildingElementProxy" objects + the BasePoint function, everything looked fine until I exported a file with External References (XREF) with multiple elements with different layers and properties inside. Normally, in order to create with the old exporter a Central Model you just need to export a clean DWG file with all the XREF files inserted and with that you will create the different "IfcBuildingStorey" categories, I was surprised that I am not able to export different building elements as a single entity with the new exporter because the XREF files are treated as Blocks and not as a container of multiple elements.

For the example I create 3 dwg files, 2 of them (Spheres.dwg and Cones.dwg) will contain several solids, I XREF the 2 files into a 3rd file (CentralModel.dwg) and I will export this one with the 2 exporters [IFCEXPORT(Old), and IFCINFRAEXPORT(4.3Extension)], and to be fair I will do in IFC4 format.

The IFC exported are:

CentralModel_IFCEXPORT (Old exporter)

CentralModel_IFCINFRAEXPORT (New exporter)

I am using:

- Civil3D 2025.1

- I have the last update of the extension

- I am using the BasePoint near the objects

Do you know how to fix the distortion and how to make the XREF not a single element when we export with the new IFCINFRAEXPORT? @snoyola Could you help me figuring out how to fix it?

After speaking with the support team they realise that it is a defect from the new IFC exporter and they escalated to the development team.

This is their reply:

"

Hello Nikolaos,

Thanks for your patience while I worked in your case.

I have performed many tests following your explanation, and also consulted and tested with my working team and everything seems to point to be a defect of this new IFC exporter – the current behavior is unexpected. For this reason, I have escalated this issue to our development team for further investigation under the internal ID:

CPR-343: Exporting with IFC 4.3 issue - XREF is exported as a block and with geometry corruption

It is set to a high priority considering that this is a blocker for the user’s workflow.

Please be aware that when we escalate an issue to our development team, they must perform their own research as to what might be causing the issue as well as how to fix it. Their schedule is regulated by service pack and new release time frames, and priority for fixing issues are determined by and how the fix impacts other functionality business cases.

Per policy, once an issue has been sent to our Development team, the Tech Support case will be closed. This does not mean that the issue is solved or complete, it means that Support has now transitioned responsibility of defect to development directly.

Should you wish to inquire about the status of this ticket in the future, please create a new support ticket referencing the mentioned ID. If you require assistance with any other technical issue, do not hesitate to submit a new Service Request—we will be pleased to assist you.

Thank you for reporting this and helping us to improve our products.
