Export profile data

Hello,

I want to export profile data to an Excel file. The profile was created from a surface.

I first did it from the panorama (profile grid view -> profile entities -> copy all and then paste it into a spreadsheet. The problem is that the precision of the metric point is only to the meter and it then gives me several elevation values for the same point (but properly sorted).

I then tried it through the Tool space (Toolbox -> Profile ->)

  • profile in CSV gives me an empty report (only the first lines/headers of the csv file are present i.e. "PVI station", "elevation", etc.)
  • PVI_station gives me an empty report

Is there a way to export these data with better accuracy (change the precision of the metric point? How?)?

Thanks

The precision for the elevations in the Grid View is controlled in Ambient Settings under Elevation.

The reason those other reports are empty is because they only report layout profiles, not surface profiles.

I am coming back to this discussion because I still have found no solution to this problem.

What I would need is to export the metric points of the not under the 0+000 m format, but as a real (double) number. The precision in Z is OK and can easily be modified.

If there is no option to do it (other than reprocess it in Excel - which I did with the grade in/grade out - then recalculating the exact metric point etc.), maybe I shoud post it on the IdeaStation.

How about you copy the profile and turn the copy to a design profile. Then you can use the Profile to CSV report.

I just tried this method and it worked perfectly. First, be sure your Ambient settings for Station are set to decimal instead of station format:

7-9-2015 9-13-51 AM.png

Now your grid view in panorama should look like so:

7-9-2015 9-29-28 AM.png

Then I used the copy all, pasted in Excell, removed the unwanted columns, did a Find/Replace to remove the 'm' from the station & elevation, and had this:

7-9-2015 9-32-06 AM.png

This whole process didnt take much time at all. Not as convenient as a direct report but it's a workable process.

Thanks for your quick reply. It is a really workable process (it is actually what I was doing except for the precision/format). I should have thought about the station settings, and will definetely pay more attention to the general settings now.

Is that possible to have stations in a even increment like 1+000 1+020 1+030..... Now it looks like it is sampled very randomly!
