Ergonomic mouse

I'm looking at getting a more ergonomic mouse for everyday all day cad drafting & civil 3d modeling functions.  If you have a good one, please make a recommendation.  Currently we are using Kensington accessories.

I would say do a GOOGLE search for VERTICAL MOUSE. Several of our clients use Evoluent models. They take getting used to but they swear by them.

I've been using the Microsoft Trackball Explored for years. Unfortunately they're no longer manufactured. You can usually find some used ones on Amazon or Ebay for $150 to $200 dollars. Or a new one still in the shrink wrap for $700. I have 2 I use and 2 I keep as backups. Every time I find a good one under $150. I pick it up as a backup.

If you decide to get one. Check the pictures. Get one with 2 screw on the bottom. Not one. The ones with one screw are older and not as sturdy.

Just checked. There are a couple on Ebay for <$100. I might pick one up for myself tonight.

Mouse selection is really dependent on your hand. What works well for me would be absolutly horrible for someone with a smaller hand. Myself I like Logitch's MX line, though I also have a Logitech G502 that I really love. The mx series fit my hand perfectly but is a little light, while the g502 though a little smaller, has customizeable weight, a dpi button for on the fly sensitivity change, and a scroll lock to quickly get my camera on site from orbit, when some random object decides to jump to 0,0,0 on a global coordinate system.

I'd recommend going to a store with a good selection, and asking them to unbox a few and let you use them on a demo system, to get a feel for how it handles, and feels. Most tech stores wont have a problem with that as they would rather you are happy with your mouse than return 4 different ones to try them out.

Also don't eliminate tech aimed for gaming out of hand as a gaming mouse can be just as good of quality and may be better for you ergonomically, the G502 is targeted at gamers and it works great for CAD.

Like @AllenJessup, I am a fan of track ball mice.

Because trackballs are stationary, they are better ergonomically than a standard mouse.

If you are going to consider a track ball give it at least a couple of days.

I have used the Logitech M570 for a number of years. This is a right handed thumb operated mouse. It is wireless, which I do not think is really necessary for a trackball. Standard AA batteries last for at least a couple of months. About $50 list, often on sale. Currently $24.95 at Best Buy.

Logitech recently added the $100 MX Ergo and MX Ergo models. I have not seen them.

I used Logitech MX518 for years and literally wore out the pads on the bottom. I just got a Logitech MX Master 2S and love it. Great mouse if you like to program button functions as well.

I recently tried the CAD Mouse from 3DConnexion. Didn't like it all. It was a little wider than I was used to and I could not get used to using their dedicated third mouse button.

I use the Razer Mamba TE.  It's right-hand ergonomic, and has two thumb buttons (which I use for ENTER and F3).  It also has page up/down buttons.

Very nice, expensive but I love it. It also has fancy light-up colors.

I've been using a Logitech G700 for years now at home and at my previous employer. My new employer is getting me the G502. I wanted the G700, but Logitech decided to change it up too much with the G703 and it just isn't the same. 

The best part about gaming mice is they're made to take punishment and you can program the buttons with macros. I have a mouse profile for CAD where I have QSAVE, TRIM, ERASE, ESC, PLINE, COPY, MATCHPROPERTIES, and UNDO all mapped to buttons on the mouse.

I found Logitech and Microsoft ergonomic mouse most comfortable. I am using Logitech M570 Ergonomic Mouse and for me, it is one best ergonomic mouse anyone can have.

Logitech Trackball 570.  I have used them for ever and love them.  They do take getting used to, but no more than a day or so.
