Since you can't delete a post, I am editing my original rantpost from this morning to avoid double posting.
Summary - 3D hidden plotting and plot shading, the usual bane of Civil 3D
There may come a day in the future where for some unexplained reason, a client will request a drawing in the "Xray" visual style. It is comforting to know that should that day come, Civil 3D will handle it out-of-the-box. For everything else, its an adventure.
Screenshots attached. I have a model with several Xrefs containing C3D objects and 3D solids. I decided this morning that trying to do what I want with a CTB table while maintaining the colors I want in other representations was just not the move. So I set my viewport to Hidden. Shade plot to As Displayed. And went into my layer manager and set the layers of the visible objects to the grayscale and lineweights I want. Now I can see what I'm plotting in Layout, which is novel.
Civil 3D objects are previewing. They are not plotting. The terrain surface is gone and I can see that survey objects on other xrefs at Elevation 0 are just boxes.
I have checked the layers those objects are on, they are set to plot.
Screenshots are attached. Help me Obi-Wan-Kenobi.
