Earthworks Plan Production - not fit for purpose?
Thought I'd remind myself about EPP and after completing a simple exercise my conclusion is that it isn't fit for purpose.
I've run it twice and used a 250m x 250m grid once with a specified boundary and once without
With Boundary
The reported totals below are way out...
Volumes in yellow have been repeated - the upper one is wrong and shouldn't be there and there are also volumes reported along the top edge (which is correct and as expected)
Without Boundary
The volumes as reported are reasonably close to those reported using a Volume surface (717,255 cu.m. Cut 697,488 cu.m. Surplus volume = 19,767 cu.m.) and the surplus is 21,858 cu.m with the difference between volume surface and Earthworks plan without boundary being 21,858-19,767 = 2,091 cu.m.
The upper volume in yellow is reported correctly and isn't a copy of the lower yellow volume (which is good) but the red volume along the top have been omitted and which in all equate to the difference in volume noted above (2,091 cu.m.)
I created parcels for all of the 250 x 250 squares and ran a parcel volume report and it is at the edges where the problems appear.
Whilst the Earthworks Plan Production is considerably quicker than creating and naming parcels and having the cut/fill reported in the drawing is a timesaver but I am reluctant to use it if I can't rely on the outputs - has anyone got any good result from Earthworks Plan Production or should I just resign myself to the fact that it is unfit for purpose?
