Dynamic North Arrow drawing location

I know where th edefault drawing for the Viewport linked North Arrow resides.

"C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2015\Map\Sample\Symbols\Map - North Arrows.dwg"

I want to have this on our network with the drawing and north arrow block referenced from our network instead.

I do not see any option for location in the Files tab in the Options dialog box. I am also afraid that i have not found this answer with a quick forum search or the "first page" of a Google search 😉

Any help? thank you

Civil 3D 2015 SP1,

Windows 7

Thanks.

Not sure what your looking for here. Take the file and copy it to a new location on the network. Tell all user where it resides and use the Insert or XAttach coommand to bring it in. These two commands remember the last folder used. There is no way to set a default location for the north arrow or any block. You could copy them as I said and create a toolpallete for your users. The toolpallet will remember the folder but this will need to be migrated for every user on evey new release. Is there another workflow you are hinting at?

When you are in paperspace, the dynamic ribbon displays the "Legend, North Arrow, & Scale Bar" panel.

When you click on "North Arrow" it shows a list of Built In blocks that are stored in the drawing file and path I posted above.

I can add a custom north arrow block to the "Maps - North Arrows.dwg" file and it will populate in the Built In north arrows.

I want AutoCAD to look for these Built In blocks on the server, not the local folder. If i remove or change the file name, then nothing is displayed and i cannot select a new path as you think. The path seems to be a default that is Built In. I would like to know how to change the path that AutoCAD is looking for the "Maps - North Arrows.dwg"

The reason i want to have AutoCAD look to a network location for this is in the event that we add or edit these blocks; it would be global and behind the scenes rather than having to go to each station and update the Builti In drawing.

Sorry I can't help with that. I dug into the cui a bit and it seems to be a hard coded command.

Looks like this is a very old post but I'm working on the same exact issue - did you ever get a solution??

My problem is that my company has made that folder read only so I can't save the "Map - North Arrows.dwg"

Have you had any luck finding a way to re-point the builtin folder?

I also was wondering how to change the location of the dynamic north arrow; one thing I was able to do is to modified the drawing file containing the dynamic north with my custom north. The way I did it was copying the file in another location like C:\temp and modified it there, then copy it back to the original location and replacing the drawing in that location.
