DFX file coordinates not shown on Civil3D

Dear all,

I have some points exported from Google Earth as KML and converted into DFX using QGIS.

I need to insert this points on an existing Civil3D drawing, but original coordinates from DFX are not detected on INSERT file dialog box.

I am using the INSERT command for this purpose.

Please, have a look on the picture.

I need your help on finding a way to insert this points and have Civil3D to automatically detect the correct points position X and Y positions.

EDITED: I also used the DFXIN command and the point is shown on correct/desired position, but the problem is that DFXIN will open the DFX file and not insert the points on an existing drawing.

I am quite sure the coordinates are on the DFX file. I attached it to this post in order for you to have a look and confirm.

Thank you very much

Regards

That DXF file only has 21KB.  I cannot imagine that there are any points in it.  At least I could not find any.  Let's get this straight, what I think doesn't mean much.

Dear Bill,

Thank you.

Since this is only for testing purposes, the DFX has only one single point exported from Google Earth and converted into DFX using DFX, with it's corresponding location.

And yes, when I INSERT it into Civil 3D, it takes some time for me to locate it on drawing.

If you use DFXIN on this file, you will find the point on:

X: 20.5003

Y: -8.9909

OK, I found it.

What I did was use the DXFIN command into a new drawing.  I Zoomed Extents and it was not in the Window but I found it with your coords.

If you know how far to zoom out in this file go to:

1.  Points (on the Ribbon) --> Convert AutoCad Points

2.  Window (select by window) all your points and they should populate your Civil 3D Points.

Thank you Bill.

Your solution solved another problem I had.
My actual problem is that, if I use DFXIN, the points go to correct position (the one I provided you). This is usefull if I am working on a new drawing.

If I use INSERT into an existing drawing, the point goes to a wrong position.

Perhaps I am using the wrong command for this purpose (INSERT).

As a workaround, I am using the following approach:
- Use DFXIN;
- Select and copy the point;
- Paste (Coordinates) into the existing drawing

Perhaps there is a solution for direct import the dfx into an existing drawing and have the point in the correct X/Y position?

Thank you once again

Paulo:

Use the DXFIN command within a new drawing.  All you have to do is select the file from where it is located on your computer.

Just wait.

That's all you need to do.  It may start a new file with the points in it.

Dear Bill,

Thank you once again.
This exactly the problem. If I use DFXIN, Civil3d will open a new drawing with points in the new drawing.

I want the points on an existing drawing.
I don't want ro open the points. I want to "import" the points into an existing drawing.

Hope you understand

Accepted solution

Paulo,

Recommend you export a CSV file of the points from QGIS.

I had no problem converting the point in your DXF into a C3D point. I'm assuming the X: 20.5003, Y: -8.9909 is degrees. If so, then you can export the points from the DXF and then re-import them into your main drawing, which I assume you have assigned a coordinate system to.
