Design Center unable to see network

I'm running C3D 2016 with all updates on Windows 10. I'm unable to reach or see Network thru Design Center. We have some users who can access the Network, but some users including me can not access the Network. I've even tried creating a drive letter to access the network which is still unsuccessful. Any ideas why? The following prompts are what I get when I click on the Network thru Design Center:

could it be a permissions issue?

I don't have mapped drives and my UAC is set to 'Never Notify'. I will ask our IT to take a look at and keep this thread updated.

Did you ever get a solution to this?  I'm having the same difficulties on Windows 10 with 2016, 2017, 2019....  pretty much makes the design center an annoyance rather than a tool.

it looks like this portion of C3D is using an old version of the network browsing interface (winXP era) rather than the Win7/Win10 version.

Thanks for any response,

MW

No I never got it to work. As a matter of fact, it doesn't work for 2019 either. I installed 2019 a few months back and tried using DC. It's still prompting the same prompts as shown in my original post. We do have users of 2016 and 2019 where Design Center works and they are able to see Network.

Mostly this is to 'bump' this message, but to answer your question, no it's not permissions.  First of all we don't use mapped drives for security reasons so its all UNC coding (\\<servername\<folder>\<file>\).  The code for this portion of the program is referencing off to an older, much-less-secure, network browsing methodology, that by default is turned off in most (not all) Windows10 installations.

Thanks for the thought though.

Yep, in our case, the fact that UNC (Universal Naming Convention) paths are not supported is ADCenter's problem.  Which is, IMO, ridiculous!  There were UNC paths LONG before there were mapped drives, which are now being exploited by, among others, crypto virii, to encrypt entire servers worth of data.  And, in the inner workings of the Operating System it is using mapped drives as a shortcut that REDIRECTS to UNC. So Autodesk denies the direct use of UNC paths, in favor of mapped drives which are really just a link to a mask for a UNC path, and the local machine has to process that X:\ redirects to \\computer\drive\share\ is just a load of manure!

Glad this issue popped up, I've been having the same on several things. We work in a small network.

Thanks for posting @sfore
