Default feature line style

Hi all, I have a question about feature line styles. If I select create feature line on the ribbon it brings up the create feature lines dialog box where I can set the site, name, style, etc. Every time I i need create a feature line I have to check the style box and select the feature line style. I can't find a way to set it to always use a style and set a default style. Am I missing something or can this not be done?

Yes, that can be done.

From the Settings tab of the Toolspace, find Grading. Right click and pick Edit Feature Settings...

Expand Default Styles. Set the default feature line style here.

Thanks for the reply. That set the default style but when I create feature line it still defaults to not using a style and I have to check the box. Is there a way to make it use the style by default?

What version are you using? Are all service packs up to date?

As @tcorey says the grading settings will set it as default.

This needs to be set in your template as it is drawing specific, so you would need to use the importstylesandsettings command to import this setting in old drawings.

Go back to Toolbox, expand the Grading branch, expand the Commands branch, select the CreateFeaturelines, rt. click, Edit command setting, toggle the Use Feature Line Style to True.

question related to this:

we recently switched from 2015 to 2018, when creating feature lines (and other things..) it used to retain the options selected. so you'd have to set what you wanted the first time, but subsequent feature lines the options would be retained. Now sometimes it reverts back to the default.

Is there a reason? Some system variable that got flipped from a 1 to a 0 that does this? If the only solution is 'set the defaults' so be it...

Go to the Settings tab of the Toolspace

Right click Grading

Select Edit Feature Settings

Find and expand General. The property called Save Command Changes to Settings is what controls this. Set it to Yes and the changes you make in the dialog will be the defaults the next time you access the same dialog.
