Decimal or engineering units in feet not inches

Hi y'all,

I have been working with Civil 3D in decimal and engineering units. When I type in 500 not 500'. My input is in inches, not in feet. I only deal with ft and I don't want to put ' (ft) at the end of all the numbers. I tried -dwgunits and -dimsty. None of it is working. Please help me with this.

Thanks in advance.

What's your setting if you type units and hit enter?

It's in feet for both decimal and engineering type.

@chun2612,
Welcome to the Autodesk Forums.
"Engineering" units are decimal inches, and Civil 3D wants nothing to do with them. Best to stick with "Decimal".

Thanks Dave. But then, when I stay in "Decimal", my drawing unit is in inches regardless what I have change in drawing units or units window. What I want to figure out is that I type in 500 and it automatically draws 500 ft, not 500 in.

To add to what @Pointdump , you should also set the pull-down for insertion to UNITLESS.

Also, please note, all the settings for units should be controlled by the Settings Tab, Right-Click the Drawing name, and select Edit Drawing Settings - From there you'll be provided with the Units and angle along with a coordinate system if you so choose.

Hi @chun2612

Double check the drawing units from DWGUNITS Command on the Command Line (sometimes this becomes different accidentally!), and definitely ensure Decimal is the Length format as well.

Hope this helps,
