Data Referenced Pipe Network Won't Hold Reference Alignment

I have a pipe network in a base file that I have data referenced into a design sheet. It is not attached to any alignments in the base file. When I try to associate the structures of the referenced pipe network with the alignment in the design sheet (not a data referenced alignment) it will show the stationing and maintain the reference but once any other data reference is synchronized or the sheet is saved and closed it loses the reference and the stationing shows up as question marks. How do I fix this? These pipe network structures will appear in other design sheets and be associated with other alignments in those design sheets so I can't refernece it to the alignment in the base file that contains the pipe network or else it will be referencing the wrong alignment in different design sheets. 

Additional info/background:

This is a public roadway set. So any manholes or inlets on or near intersections will show up in multiple plan and profile sheets hence the need to be able to reference multiple alignments based on the sheet the pipe network is data referenced into.

What version Civil 3d are you working with?  I haven't seen this, so I'm curious what is going on.

I am using 2023.

Prior to referencing the alignment.

Immediately after assigning the reference alignment

Has the alignment's names been renamed?

Has the base drawing in the sheets been moved?

The alignments names have not been renamed.

The base drawings were moved but I detached everything and referenced them in again. I also deleted all the data references, recreated them, and rereferenced them in the design sheets when I moved everything. Its basically a whole new sheet. The only thing that didnt get recreated was the mtext labels I had for the road names and the alignments themselves. 

I validated the shortcuts and it still deletes the alignment reference when I synchronize the pipe networks. The pipe networks will synchronize, it just removes by alignment reference in the structure properties when they do.

I found the solution. Instead of referencing the alignment in the structure properties I referenced the alignment in the label properties. 

Also, when creating the data reference for the pipe network you can select "Override Reference Alignment:" and select the alignment you want the network to reference and that also solves the issue.
