Cut/Fill Surface Elevation Banding AT FINISHED GRADE SURFACE

Looking to make a surface which shows the cut/fill via color at the finished surface itself (as in, when orbited out of plan view the color shows at the correct surface elevation)

Desired surface is similar to that of this picture: Sample.jpg

  • I have already created a TIN Volume surface comparing existing/proposed surfaces showing elevation bandings per contour intervals.
  • I have already modified the Surface Style>Summary>Elevations>Display Type to 3D Faces
    • Note that this is effectively what I would like, however the cut and fills have a datum of elevation 0 rather than the existing grade.

Any and all help/thoughts would be appreciated.

Regards,

just thinking out of the box... you could do a 2D c/f and save as an image and drape on the 3D FG. I can't think how you could get an image of the surface that would be geo-referenced. I'm sure someone smarter could figure it out.

Obviously, the volume surface works as a delta comparing two surfaces. Having the shading be at the FG elevation would mean the comparison would be zero; negating your intention...

Maybe someone else has a better solution?

Thanks
Kevin

I'm with you @Kevin.Spear, I can't think of a way to get one surfaces analysis to display on the 3D Tin of another surface.  Image Draping is the only thing I could come up with.

Hey Kevin, Thanks for the input! I did think of this, and am currently in the process of learning to drape an image/exporting my published PDF to an image format. Fortunately, it is only for aesthetic purposes at this point, so draping an image may be all I need. I'll update an mark this as a solution if I find it sufficient!

Thanks again.
