Curve Table Tag Losing Idenity

  Hi all!,

Hopefully this is a simple fix. I have created some curve line tags and a curve table. One of the line tags has a line going through it so I slide it along the curve and it loses the identity. It changes the line tag to "C???". On the curve table the curve info is correct but the curve number shows the "C???".  I have attached screenshot for reference. Oddly, in the screenshot I can slide C3 with no issues. Any one know what the difference is?

Thanks again to everyone for bailing me out.

?

Are you using parcels? Labeling through an xref? Tried recreating the label?

Very sorry for the late reply. Somehow my notifications were turned off. I am not using parcels. Just simple polylines.

Can you post a file?

I rarely ever have the question marks come up, I also only use line and curve segments, as I learned long ago polylines are sometimes a bad thing when using parcels and parcel labels, not your issue here, but little things that happen when using parcels make polylines a bad actor.

Otherwise, when I get a question marks, I generally erase the curve and re-label it.

Saying this rarely happens is not a solutions... This is a common problem and always seems to happen at a deadline..

when you have 2 or 3 hundred labels that are coming up question marks redoing the entire curve an line table is a ridiculous response.. this has been happening for years why do the simple things never get fixed..

I found the solution. Edit Label Style> Layout Tab> "Used in"> Select "Table Tag".

That should update all the other labels as well. Hope this helps.

I didn't see were the OP found a solution? I was not marked as one and I still RARELY have the problem. I just giving my experience, workflow (does and don'ts) which matter.

I recently completed a 500+ lot subdivision, which I used parcels and labeled through an xref having over 1200 curve labels (not counting the line labels here) across 20 sheets. I didn't have any issues with tag labels even after having to renumber all of them due to major design changes, but the best part was that it all updated after the basemap changes. That was worth the price of gold.

BTW: Welcome to the Forums, perhaps don't be so critical and post a request for help.

any luck weeding out the gaps in the table tags where it will go from say L98 to L101 then if you renumber it to L99 it will say there is a duplicate? In the past I have created using bearing and distance, and converting to tags after, but that doesn't help much on an existing table. Seems like there should be an easy way to weed out the gaps, but have yet so see this happen after complaining for years.

I haven’t had it happen in quite a while. However, another place it has happened is when the drawing with labels is exported. Ultimately that was how I found the solution.

I do like creating the tags in and xref, it is better than right in the sheet file. I wish Autodesk would create an automatic solution for renumbering and weeding out numerical gaps. Thanks for all your help.

I have strayed away from the Tag only mode because it will cause labels to go out of sequence, even without labels in the drawing (skip around not label sequentially) which is annoying in and of itself. I always have the style set so that it can accommodate both, then if I want tags, I select them and convert/tabulate them as needed. 90% of the time I'm using parcels, so labels are already in the drawing, since I had the labels created while creating the parcels. Just my workflow, IMO parcels can be your friend, they can turn on you too. (Not so friendly)
