Crosshairs / Cursor jumpy

Hi everybody.

I'm having some issues with my pointer (Crosshairs/Cursor) which is very jumpy.

A few years ago I had the same issue and solved it somehow, but I can't remember what I did.

I recently re-installed Civil 3D and maybe some environment settings changed causing the issue.

Any help appreciated

I know this question has been asked a couple of times so I'm not sure if I should have posted in one of the topics, but hopefully it's ok to start a new one in my case.

It sounds like it might be a graphics issue, something similar to this:  https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Slow-jumpy-cursor-...

But with C3D 2023, you can just switch the variable GFXD12 = 0  based on this:  https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How-to-make-AutoCA...

@RobertEVs the grid is turne off and the grid snapping too. Is this what you mean?

@v-silvestre I'm thinking of a graphic issue too, since it's rather a gaming or multimedia GPU than a CAD GPU that I have.

Unfortunately there is no such variable within my C3D. First I thought of a typo, but after displaying all system variables starting with G I found none. (using command "SYSVAR g*").

Is this a C3D system variable or an OS system variable?

Use the GRAPHICSCONFIG command to open the Graphics Performance dialog. Confirm if it states DirectX 11 or 12. If it says 12 you can force it to 11 by creating a Windows System Variable using the instructions provided. You can also test by turning off hardware acceleration using the same dialog. Also, make sure you have the latest drivers for your card.

Since you're on C3D 2023 you should just be able to type that into the command line, no "(setvar..." needed.  Just:

GFXD12 > 0

C3D_2023_GFX_command.jpgAs you can see I got no such command (although I use the non-redefined non-local version of the command).

But I added a system variable on my OS and when checking the graphic settings "Dx11" is displayed, so it should work.

Nevertheless the crosshairs jump around like a kangaroo.

Any other ideas?

Straight from the Autodesk Support, for Civil 3d 2022 and newer:

Have you actually typed it in or are you trying to use Autocomplete?

The only other thing I could think of was more related to a screen flickering:

https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Drawing-window-fli...

Have you also tried toggling Hardware Acceleration?

I seem to remember a glitch many versions ago where the cursor would flicker if the Toolspace was on "Active Drawing View"....or maybe it was "Master View". Try toggling that one:

In toolspace set both the prospector tab to Active Drawing View and the settings tab to Active Drawing Settings View. If that solves the problem it gives something to look for, it's an old problem with a known fix. Which I can't remember at the moment but makes it easier to find the proper solution.

You can also try things listed here:

Cursor lags or jumps on specific drawings in AutoCAD products (autodesk.com)

Try a different mouse

Try the NEW command, if there are no DWT files in the default template folder it will cause the Toolspace to flicker.

Alright, I couldn't test it before, so now the update.

I have testet the following without changes / improvement:

  1. DirectX (Version 12/11)
  2. Tried three different mice (Logitech Performance MX wireless, Logitech M330 Silent wireless, Logitech G3 wired)
  3. Changed SysVars as described here (UCSDETECT=0, SELECTIONPREVIEW=0; STATUSBARAUTOWRAP=0, DYNMODE=0, QTEXTMODE=1)
  4. Hardware Acceleration (OFF/ON)
  5. Video Memory Caching Level (0-5)
  6. 2D Display Settings (Basic Mode, Intermediate Mode, Advanced Mode)
  7. Toolspace Prospector (Active Drawing Settings View/Master View), Toolspace Settings (Active Drawing Settings View/Master View)
  8. Tested Modelspace, Paperspace, Modelspace within Layout
  9. Crosshairs size (1 to 100)

All of the above didn't resolve the issue.

But the funny thing is, that the "lag" happens with the crosshairs only. Aa soon as I get out of the Modelspace the mouse moves without any issues.

Any ideas on this?

I'm lost. With the crosshairs behaving  like this, I can hardly work

Sorry if this is a repeat. Is this with any drawing? What about a blank drawing using acad.dwt?

Have you tried the variable snapmode? - if not 0, set it to 0

Hello again,

I've tried all of the suggested solutions, but it still didn't solve the issue.

Well, I have a huge amount of software running in the background (SysTray, Multitasking, etc.)

May that be the cause?

Shut them down one by one and restart AutoCAD each time to test. Another way to test is to create a new user account and see if it changes when using AutoCAD from that account with fewer programs running.
