I agree, while you can use alignments & featurelines to get your striping to be part of the corridor, it just isn't worth the effort. And that effort is high, you'll have double the number of assemblies at minimum, and a lot of extra alignments and profiles to keep track of.
Where I work we develop the striping (or channelization) plan first as a plain AutoCAD drawing, because our lane widths & configuration are determined by the project scope & road classification. Once we have the striping plan, we create the corridor in a separate drawing. If the scope changes, say, by our traffic department deciding we need a right-turn bay, we update the chan plan, and revise the corridor. The corridor is used to get the material quantities and staking, and the chan plan is used to lay down the stripes, symbols, and signs when the project is built.
To make a crosswalk, the cad tech draws an 8' polyline with a width of 2', then arrays or copies it across the road. We are not even using dynamic blocks (but that does sound like a good idea).
