Creating Surface off a Building pad - Calculating Cut/Fill

I am new to Civil 3D.I am working on an site plan trying to calculated cut/fill (no slope grading - there will be retaining wall all around the budling pad perimeter) for the proposed budling pad on a hill. I have the proposed building footprint elevation (2720 ft) and all of the proposed contours added to file.
What would be the easiest way to dynamically calculate and see the cut/fill changes while changing pad elevation or the
location of pad elevation?
I tried creating the volume surface, grading tool etc . (following directions in forums) but I have been doing something wrongđŸ˜€.  I have attached the row file. I would greatly appreciate it if someone help me with this example.

The Civil 3D Drawing Settings look fine, set to Meters, but your drawing Units are set to Architectural. Change that to Decimal and then edit those polylines to the proper elevations. You're almost there. I would like to see another contour or two in the front of the pad so you dont' have that free-hanging angle point.

After you get all that fixed, create a Surface, add those polylines as Breaklines.

Make another surface, adding the building footprint as a brealine.

Make a TIN Volume Surface that compares the two. Set all surfaces to Rebuild Automatic.

Now editing the elevation of the pad will provide instant feedback.

This is using your desire to not grade from the pad, but to treat it like a retaining wall.
