Creating Sheet Sets

Hello everyone, I actually have two problems regarding the topic. 

The first is can you create view frames and plan and profile layouts for a template that currently has none? I'm not familiar enough with sheet sets. 

Some background. I am currently using a template that was created by someone else, but for whatever reason no sheet sets were created for it. So when I do *create view frames>Sheets>Template plan and profile sheet... The template I'm using has no layouts to select to create new sheets. Essentially I'd like to add or create that. Really struggling to get that accomplished. 

I did however, accomplish a work-around by selecting a default civil3d template and just copied my title block from the template I'm using. This is working fine I suppose for what I need which is plan and profile sheets. But I am having trouble with the text for the profile view sheets. When Civil3d stuck them together the elevation text overlaps and I cannot get it to change. A picture is attached. Thanks in advance. Like I said sheet sets are a bit foreign to me, but hopefully will utilize them more to stay familiarized in the future.

Like you noted that you are a bit foreign to sheet sets, kindly take some time to learn the sheet set manager. There are plenty of resources on the Autodesk knowledge network.

Now to your text over lapping issue, the picture doesn't seem to say much about your problem but from my experience, I believe it is an issue with your profile views (and nothing to do with Sam).
When creating your multiple profile sheets, there must have been an option to split your profile views in a sheet. The overlapping elevation s therefore must be grid elevation labels from short split views.

After creating your profile sheets, you can actually manually edit the split views and correct that issue.

Thanks for the response...

I've scoured many help sites for Issue number one and nothing addresses how to create view frames inside a template that is already created. It seems simple enough but whichever route I go while inside the template drawing, it will not let me create view frames because no layouts were originally created. 

As far as problem two, that video was pretty helpful, in fact I watched it yesterday. However, it doesn't quite help me get the text overlapping issues fixed. When I try to even edit the profile styles, it's as if I'm changing the wrong style (uneventful), even though its the style being used. 

Anyways Before I make this more complicated, I appreciate the response!

Hello and sorry to hear you are having SSM problems. It’s a great tool. I’m a bit confused by your description of the problem “View frames (CFC) and a template for sheet creating (dwt) are two different things.

Vf define the views along the alignment and the dwt is looking for a layout tab with a title block with field, border, and ports defined as plan and another as profile.

Too much to say on my phone but google sheets happen to get a great white paper on SSM

I can't say that I really understand the sheet set template issue, as I only use them in a fairly limited capacity.

With regards to your profile labels, you may actually be editing the wrong style. When you have a split profile view, C3D defines a style for each section. They can be edited in the profile properties window on the elevations tab. see the image below for clarity:

Yeah that is the solution! I finally got it working right yesterday afternoon. Unfortunately because of the height (which I had to adjust as well) There is still some overlapping because civil3d sees that there is a grid line just barely visible. So I am probably going to have to have a weird height of lik XX.79.

Yes you are right. The initial problem with the template I'm using is it has no layout defined. So there is only a title block. So when I try to create the *VF I'm unable too in this particular dwt. So my question was can I set up a layout in an already created dwt. I cannot figure out how, because I did not create the template unfortunately.

Hello @Anonymous yes tha is exactly what you want to do.just go into the dwt add a layout, give it a meaningfull name "Ds-size sheet". or 36x24, etc...

put you border and titlle block on it at 0,0.

configure the layout dimensions, page setup and aything else you want in you sheet file.

configure the field assignments in you title block> read up on this if you dont know what I'm about to say. always define the fields in the TB "default" state of the attributes.

if you plan on ussinf custom fields besure to document carefully. You will have to repeat the process exactly in the dst file.

save and let sheets happen
