Creating grid coordinates in the viewport

Hi there,

Does anyone know how to create grid coordinates around the border of the viewport ? I can do it manually but it takes lot of time switching between paper and model to get it done. Would love to listen to any recommendation that can shorten the process. Please find the attached for a sample (showing the grid at model, but I want to get it done in paperspace/viewport)

Appreciate your help !

Cheers,
kelvin

To make a reference grid on your viewport use MAPLAYOUTREFERENCESYSTEM command.

  1. Assign an appropriate coordinate system to your drawing then go to your Layout Tab. Make the Layer you want the grid to appear on the current layer. Set your viewport to the desired scale.
  2. Go to Layout Tools Tab=>Reference System=>Create
  3. Click on the viewport for the reference system.
  4. Fill in the info in the Reference System dialog box. Click OK.

Thanks ! this works in normal viewport. Do you know any other method that works in polygonal viewport ?

Sorry, no. It doesn’t work in polygonal, only works for square and rectangle.

I am not adding anything useful here, but want to point out that it seems that the  "reference grid system"(RGS)
has to be a assigned to a rectangle viewport (VP).
Secondly, if you have a another viewport overlapping the same area as the VP with RGS, then the RGS will be overlapping the second VP. - This is an issue I would have liked to be resolved, but I haven't found any solution myself. Please let meknow if anyone stumble upon a solution! 🙂
