Create vertices at intersection of contour lines and sample line/section lines

Hi There,
Please excuse me if I incorrectly use any terminology, I am pretty new to this field.
I have generated a contour map of a canal with a center alignment and samples lines at every 20 meters (where we generated cross sections). I also have a point cloud from which we have created a surface and the contours.
From the cross section drawings it is easy to see the elevations at the extents of either side of the canal, however we would like to add vertices on the contour map itself with elevation labels at the extents of the canal. Doing this manually will take a long time. I realize using the sample line may not be an option, but we can make that a polyline as well.
I assume there is a way, using the create ground points tools, to do this, but have not had luck. Attached is a sketch of where we would like the vertices. Using the create points at intersections I can't get it to use the contours as a selection. Using the create points from surface I am able to get points, but only at a fixed interval along the contour lines. Even if I set the interval to 20m, the same as the section intervals, they don't match exactly, I assume because the canal is not straight.
Any help is really appreciated!
