Create Surface from .xyz File

I think my question is very basic, but I just can't figure it out. I have a .xyz file (columns of x, y, and z coordinates) for a point cloud of terrain data. I need to create a surface from this point cloud. I'd like to create a smooth surface (not just a tin). I've looked online for a procedure to create the surface, but so far I haven't been able to get anything to work. I'd like to import the point cloud directly into Civil 3D and create the surface. Can someone help?

Thanks,

Allen

@Pointdump Thank you! I have a triangulated surface now! I'm trying to figure out how to smooth the surface. Can that be done in Civil 3D?

Allen,
Be careful about smoothing. It can affect volume quantities and slow down a drawing with added "weight".
For specifics on smoothing, read >>>Here<<<.

As shown in the link posted by @Pointdump  You can smooth a Surface or you can Smooth the Contours. Smoothing Contours is a visual process and does not alter the Surface. Smoothing the Surface will add points to the Surface based on the grid size as shown in the video posted by @Jeew-m
