Can you create contours from points already in a drawing? I have pts in a drawing, but I can not reload them. is there a way I can select the points that are already there to create my contours?

What a coincidence.. just few minutes ago replied in a very similar question.Smiley Happy

Yes, you can. Through C3D Toolspace, in the Surface definition -> right-click on the "Drawing Objects" element -> Choose "Points" from the list, and it's done.

I hope this helps.

I was able to create a surface in both of those drawings with the blocks 🙂

Here's a picture:

Windows 7 x 64
ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series
12 GB Ram
i7 920 @ 2.67 GHz
Civil 3D 2011, 2010, 2009 and occasionally 2008 still (unfortunantly)

They're not actually points, they're blocks set at elevation.

See Attached it is quick and dirty, I am assuming you are using C3D11 since I got no warning.

If you got that from a surveyor I would recomment asking for the ascii file, I am unaware of a way to convert Carlson Points

This would also allow you to import the point to create fault lines, etc......

Yes, but you just have to be very careful. Objects will not be linked dynamically with the surface, so, if you modify them (e.g. move), the surface not going to be marked as "modified". You will have to remove the previous definition and add again.

Here is how I managed to do it.

1. Explode all points

2. Set Create Points command to not prompt to enter point information (set automatic). See image.

PTTable.png

3. From Home ribbon, Points, Convert AutoCAD points

4. When prompted which points type ALL

5. Create surface and add these COGO points to it
