Create a best fit proposed surface from an existing surface and how to edit

Hi,

I am fairly new to Civil 3D and am trying to replicate what i would normally do in PDS with roads but for an entire surface.

I have a proposed surface. In PDS you can take sections and then generate a line of best fit (ie minimise earthworks) and then manipulate from there. Is this possible in Civil 3D?

I have a site layout so once i have a 'best fit surface' how would i then manipulate this?

I think i can use feature lines around building footprints to create finished floor levels etc.

Once all this is done can i compare existing surface and proposed surface to calculate earthworks?

There is no best fit option but you can create existing surface profiles from your alignments then create a design surface profile and manipulate it to how you want it to minimize cut/fill.

Hope this helps!
