Crashes when using multiple views.

using civil 3d 2024 with all the latest updates done. I use a design drawing containing alignments, profiles and corridors. When working in my production drawing (with data referenced in) i generate features lines from the corridor, then project them to the profile and create profiles that i can labels. I create multiple views in model space (usually 2) one for plan view and one for profile view and turn on the station tracker to all viewports. I can work for about and hr. maybe 2 then I get a fatal error and it crashes. I do a recovery - no errors, do an audit - no errors. And the drawing opens up with only one view in models space. It happens on multiple drawings with different design drawing information  data referenced in. Have sent in report almost every time but no suggestions ever come back. I have remade my profile several times with no change.

Perhaps a graphic card issue, what are you specs., ram etc., are you using a certified card?

With those specs I don't see anything that would cause the issue at hand. I would say verify that you have installed all updates. Will C3D has updates so does Autocad, Autocad Architecture, and Map 3D. The later updates sometimes take a little digging to get the installs. Some don't know that there not included in the general C3D install.

Like @rl_jackson said, I would make sure you have applied the most recent updates for everything.  You may also try toggling the hardware acceleration setting.

i have tried all of those, did need a .net framework up date and thought that was it because i worked 2 days without a crash, but no luck, happened multiple time again yesterday. Works fine if i dont use the dual views, just slows production ay down.

hello,

i think your problem is your method for creating profiles.

i have drawings with 10+ layouts tabs with plan/profile viewports  on each.

here we have 2d and 3d drawings.

2d drawings are just line work, no elevations  (x-reference)

3d drawings are profiles, corridors, surfaces, grading (data short cuts)

we have a base file showing the boundary and all proposed improvements

a survey base file showing the boundary and all existing improvements

the existing ground surface (from survey)

then we setup the CL drawing (street center lines), this drawing has the street alignments (horizontal and vertical)

the EG surface is a data shortcut into the CL and we cut profiles to setup the vertical alignments.

(this is where we get our vertical alignments for Finish Grade)

we data short cut the alignments (horizontal  and vertical) and generate the corridor surface

we data short cut the road corridor surface (Roads FG) into our DG (site grading)

the DG drawing is were you will see more feature lines and grading objects to compete the FG surface

we do use a few feature lines in the Corridor drawing for the curb return design and nothing else

and doing things this way we have very few crashes and problems.

another item for your viewports is are you using dynamic north arrows or bar scales?

these two items cause problems, avoid them.

good luck,

Hi Les,

Thank you for reaching out to the forum. I reviewed the CER, and one item I’ve seen in two of the crash reports is the AcTransient crash. Do you have any plugins installed? Theoretically, hovering over some polylines could cause such behaviour when there are non-Autodesk plugins installed and loaded.

I'd also suggest contacting Autodesk Support so they can take a closer look.

  1. Visit the 'Contact Support' page at https://www.autodesk.com/support/contact-support.
  2. Once there, please sign in to your account
  3. Select the 'Using and troubleshooting my software' option.
  4. Next, provide a detailed description of your issue or question.
  5. Click on 'See options,' and you will be presented with your subscription contact choices. You can either click 'Live Chat' to chat with an Autodesk support specialist or click 'Create a case' to send your question via email.

Remember to mark your posts as having an "Accepted Solution" if a solution is found as it helps other forum users with the same issue – so don't be shy about marking it as a solution! Accepted solutions get viewed more and help more users find the answer to their problems. . You could unmark the post as an accepted solution if the solution did not work. Hello again,

looking at your original post.

why extract feature lines from the corridor to use for your profiles?

what are you creating profiles of?

where i work we use feature lines for lot grading and surfaces only.

good luck,
