Corridor Intersection Workflow for Wide Daylighting and Small Curb Radius

C3D Community,

 

The firm I work at does alot of design for a subdivision in our area. Typically to make the road FG surface everything is done by offsetting feature lines from the CL alignment. I am pretty new and trying to help bring some of these dated workflows into present times by using corridors and more dynamically linked C3D objects. Hopefully this will help efficiency when we are making design updates.

 

My main issue is how to handle intersection radii. Many intersections are composed of different width roads with small back of curb radii. Our typical section/assembly, from back of curb,has some green space/sidewalk followed by a 10' offset @ 4% grade, and finally a 4:1 daylight to EG. The wide grading make the intersections difficult to model. The different width roads make the right of way varying distances from the back of curb. I used

this video to solve that. But the problem still remains with not letting the wide grading/daylighting overlap. I have tried to use grading objects but it seems to crash my C3D often and the intersections still come out jagged sometimes.

 

What is everyone's typical workflow for handling these situations. Any tips? I am looking for some guidance. I would really like to solve this problem with a robust workflow to avoid having to redraw our FG every time something changes.

This are either has to dictate the tangent grading on either side or follow. the later requires the grade from back of side walk to mostly be irregular. IMHO is just tyhe way it is

in the sketch below the redlines represent the engineered dalight slope. The green the tie in at the retruns.

How to facilitate this in a corridor:

 

1. leave out teh daylight subs for the returns 

2. build the corridor

3.connect the two daylight points* with a FL (green)

4. extract eg elevation to FL in 3.

5. add FL to corridor as baseline

* you probsbly wont but if that gade is too steep, then you would add a curb reveal to back of walk around the return. (You see it in the real world all the time)
