copy to clipboard failed error civil 2017

I have a tin surface that I created and now I need to add a proposed road into my finished surface, but when I try to paste my road surface into the finished ground surface that is already created I get a message saying "Error preforming edit", has anybody else had this problem and know how to fix it?  I am running civil 3d 2017 now but when this project was created we was using civil 3d 2014.  I've had quit a few things that I'm seeing different now.

I noticed that my corridor was targeting the existing surface so I changed it to target my finished ground.  Can I still add the corridor surface to my finished ground even though that is the target?

Check your corridor for crossing corridor feature lines. I find that this is usually the cause of the error message.
