Converting a .SDR from an SDR33 data collector to AutoCAD Civil 3D .fbk file

Hi All,

I can convert a previously downloaded .SDR from a Land Desk Top project with no problem. I cannot convert a new download from my SDR33 to a .fbk.  I get an error message "No header record was found in SDR file. No JOB or MODE records will be output. Do you want to continue?"  I say OK and the conversion just ends and it says the SDR can not be converted.  I don't know about anyone else but I still have Land Desktop on an old machine and I love that program. I'm ready to pitch civil and go back.

Can anyone offer a solution?

Thanks,

Post the SDR file.

Here you go.

When I try to send the SDR it tells me .sdr is not a valid extension. Can I email you the file?

Just rename the file by adding .txt or put it in zip file.

Did you receive the TXT version of my SDR file?  I don't think the file I posted as a TXT went through correctly.  I attached the file at the attachment line in the post but maybe I should have done it in a different way?

Thanks,

Darren

Darren,

Your text file just showed jibberish. Try zipping the SDR file. This forum will accept anything in its original format as long as it's zippola'ed.

Darren,

I'm getting same as you. Have you looked around for a Sokkia add-on? For Trimble stuff there's Trimble Link and for Carlson stuff there's Carlson Connect.

I can confirm that Survey Data Collection Link in Civil 3D is giving the error you describe.

Do you have the Sokkia software that allows you to view the file and possibly export to a coordinate list csv file? Maybe call your Sokkia reseller?

Are you saying you can convert this particular file using Survey Data Collection Link in Land Desktop? That would surprise me as I think the tool has simply been ported from LDD to C3D and not changed.

Every SDR file I have tested that was previously brought into LDD has converted to a FBK file.  The file appears to transfer without issue from my SDR33 into CIV3D. The  Survey Link 7.5.5 routine in CIV3D apparently isn't able to convert it.  The error message is Greek to me anyone know what that means? "No header record was found in SDR file" and "No JOB or MODE records will be output"  I've been using LDD and Autodesk products for years and have always been able to 2 way communicate with the SDR33.

Thanks for getting back with me and for your input.

Darren,

I have nothing to offer but links from nosing around the Innertoobs.

Sokkia has a ProLink 1.5 data conversion software, but I'm too skeered to download it from this site:
http://www.updatestar.com/en/topic/prolink%201.5

Then there's Sokkia Link. I found a manual, but I don't know where to get the software:
http://www.kollnerlabrana.cl/PDF/787_sokkia_manualsokkialink.pdf

If I had to bet the farm on a sure winner, I'd get StarNet:
http://www.microsurvey.com/products/starnet/converters.htm

And here's a possibility--Stringer Connect:
https://www.stringersurvey.com/prod01.htm

Dave,

Just for grins I'm putting out there a LDD SDR file and the conversion I did a few minutes ago.  It went through without a glich.

Thanks,

Darren

Try renaming your file so that it is only 8 characters, with no spaces and such. SurveyLink has existed since early windows/dos. Sometimes it just doesn't like long file names.

Hi All,

I believe it was a Baud Rate issue.  I bumped up the Baud Rate on CIV3D and the SDR33 to the highest setting and now it appears to be working fine in both directions.  Thanks for all the input and support.

Darren,

The Baud Rate is usually for communications between the data collector and the total station, and it's set in the data collector. I didn't know that could affect file conversion in Survey Link. Where did you change that? Can you post a Screen Shot?

I am not completely sure on the technical side.  The tech with Imaginit told me to bump up the baud rate.  It appears the header was being affected when the communication started so the .SDR file was not created correctly.  I bumped the baud rate up as high as the SDR33 allowed and it finished the send without an error message.  Then the conversion routine worked fine for making the .SDR into a .FBK and the rest is history.

Thanks again for the help!
