Contour Label Issue

I'm labeling my contours via xref. When selecting the contour line and placing the label, this is what I get;

Now, I can grab the line and stretch it and the text will finally appear. however, I have to do this every time i label a contour line. in reality here's what it looks like when actually panning around the dwg.

So, as you can see it's extremely small and makes it very hard to see if the label has even been placed.

After playing around with contour labels, it appears the contour label line size is determined by the drawing scale at the time of creation. iIt does not change size with the drawing scale after creation.

Hey thanks for the reply,and setting me on the right track, but that's not entirely accurate;

Here's what I found out. the size of the contour label line seems to be controlled by the "CANNOSCALE" of the "drawing" the surface was created in, regardless of the drawing its referenced into.

if your "CANNOSCALE" IS SET TO 1=1, you'll get the small contour line label like in my original post. However, if you change that scale factor to let's say 50, save the drawing and then reload the reference file the line is correct. by the same token if you were to go back to that surface drawing and change it to a 5000 scale drawing, save it and reload it, and then label a contour line the text remains the same size, however contour label lines are gigantic!

Thanks agin for pointing me in the right direction!!
