Complex slice - one 2d shape over 3d solid

Good morning,

Is it possible to slice one solid with a complex 2D plane? I understand 'circle, ellipse, arc, 2D-spline, or 2D-polyline' are possible. However, I want to project a more complex shape (contained in one plane) onto a solid. File attached.

Is there a command for this, or is a series of 2D cuts going to be the easiest?

Cheers

Slice command (be careful if you type, this triggers Civil 3D pressure pipe slice function) cuts through an object on a plane defined by 2d objects or user-selected points. Are you trying to slice a 3d object and apply a pattern as described by your polyline? I would extrude the custom pattern and then apply a slice to that.

Like this?

Yee. However, your polyline can't be self-intersecting. You've got to break it down to non-intersecting parts.

Hey Iggy, what were your exact keystrokes to achieve that? I seem to cut the block in half : l

I'm not exactly sure how you cut it, my red tranaparend solids are also two, as the number of surfaces used to slice.

Or is it the outer gray bit you need?

I went slice -> **selected the cube** -> planar object -> **selected the polylines**

Hey!

What you did was slice it in the plane where your polyline lies. Not vertical. That's why you likley cut it in half horizontaly.

Find the screencat attached, the proces is simple enough.

Iggy

Don't know why the screencast is not active on the previous post.

I hope it's here now. Oh, there's an insert button! But it doesn't work..link below!
