Command Line not functioning

Anyone come across situations where the command line does not accept any entries - can't even copy and paste the command from a text editor? The only recourse is to shut Civil 3D down and restart.

I can't reproduce on demand but it always happens at he most inopportune times and is very frustrating...😠

I have had that happen when multiple drawings are open. It seems like the software loses focus on which drawing is current. Did you have more one than file open? I discovered that was the problem when I reselected a drawing tab and got focus again.

@Neilw_05 thanks for this - I did have two drawings open. It does seem that the focus is lost as the keyboard works fine outside Civil 3D

I'll try switching drawings next time it happens...😊

I to have had that happen for the same reasons, and found that switching between files usually resolved the issue.

I've experienced that with more than one drawing open also. Just check the other drawing to make sure nothing was changed by accident.

@AllenJessup @rl_jackson @Neilw_05

I raised a support ticket and got the following reply

"Hello Neil,

Thank you for contacting Autodesk Technical Support. My name is Michal, and I will assist you in this case.

From the case description, I understand that you are experiencing issues with command use in Civil 3D while working with multiple tabs/drawings - command is entered in another tab/drawing. Is that correct?

Could you please turn off level of detail using the 'LEVELOFDETAILOFF' command.

If that does not resolve the issue, try to manually reset your Civil 3D user profile to defaults: How to reset Civil 3D to defaults.

Whether you have any additional questions regarding the above, please do not hesitate to contact me. "

I questioned whether this was a bug and the reply....

"Thank you for your email.

It should not be considered as bug at this moment. This behavior is rather connected to corrupt Civil 3D profile which in this case can be managed by 'LEVELOFDETAIL' command, hovewer Civil 3D profile reset is still recommended solution in the long term.

Please let me know if you consider your question answered."

I’ve seen this happen when more than one drawing is open. The current drawing will not accept any input on the command line.

When I switch to the non-current drawing I expect to see crosshairs at the cursor but no, none. It appears to be in the middle of a command, waiting of course, for more input. Pressing ESC ends the ‘waiting’ and the crosshairs reappear. At this point I switch back to the former drawing and all is good.

If more than two drawings are open the procedure becomes more annoying because I have to figure out which of the non-current drawings is guilty. (Or press ESC in all drawings.)

Why or how a non-current drawing gets involved in a command is beyond me but once the crosshairs reappear entries to the command in the former drawing become possible.

Changing the LevelofDetail wasn’t used on my end so I can’t confirm whether that works or not. Can anyone confirm?

Issues being caused by a corrupt user profile and the need to reset to default seems to be the stock answer from Autodesk support these days
