Civil 3D pipe network structure profile display solid vs boundary

Hi all,

I have a dilemma with my pipe network structures profile display.

If I use "display as boundary" the manhole shows a length of 7 ft (skinny) which should have been 13.5 ft (wide), but the duct banks tie in to this display nicely. see image "mh boundary"

If I use "display as solid" the manhole shows the correct length of 13.5 ft, but the duct banks are shown crossing into the mh all the way to the centerline of the mh (see image "mh solid"), as if the "enable part masking" is turned off. however this "enable part masking" checkbox is greyed out under the "display as solid" option.

So my question is how do I display the mh with the correct length of 13.5 ft and also have the duct banks stop at the outline of the mh. thanks.

what does the plan view look like for this structure?  do you have a PI in your alignment within the structure?  Is it at a sharp angle?  Have you tried creating a block for the structure profile view?

Check the Rule Set for your Pipes.  If you do not have a Rule in there for how to handle Pipe End Locations, then add it in as shown below?  Then set it to be Structure Inner Wall.

Also, we always set our structure styles to be Solid.  This way when you rotate your manhole so the lid/cone opening is over the outlet, the profile will show that as well.  If you set it to Boundary, the structure profile will not look correctly in that aspect.  It usually always throws the lid/cone to the left side of the structure in profile view.

MSchillie,

the rule set fixed the problem. thanks.

I have another question regarding displays. If i use "display as solid" in my structure style, the structure display doesn't follow the "display" tab setting, nor the object layer setting. I basically can't change the structure display when it's set to "display as solid". I have no problem with "display as boundary". I just happen to have
