Civil 3D freezes while selecting objects when properties palette is open

I am having issues with my 2019 Civil 3D freezing up whenever the properties palette is open. It is usually not a major issue however the 2-3 second delay every time I select or deselect something really adds up. What could be the cause of this and is there a fix?

Do you have the 2019.2 update installed?

whatever you do don't grab a bunch of cogo points unless you save first. it takes a LOT longer than a few seconds to come back, if at all.

Try closing the properties dialog if you have it open and see if that makes a difference.

Yes, I have to close the properties dialog box in order for Civil 3D to work correctly. The issue is that every time I want to modify the properties of something (which is a lot) I have to reopen the dialog box which of course freezes again briefly.

It sucks. It used to be having the layer dialog open caused delays. That is used a lot, but not as much, so I try to keep it closed. Also - try undocking the properties box. I'm not sure if autohide has any effect on this stuff.

I have tried undocking and it still freezes. At this point I am just trying to figure out if this is an isolated bug or if it is happening to more people, in which case I'll have to figure out how to report it to Autodesk.

One workaround I found is using the quick properties, which still freezes, however the duration is much shorter. The main issue here is that it does not display all the information I need and it is time consuming having to edit the quick properties for every type of object.

I can verify that, if the properties box is open, and I select COGO Points, it freezes. The more points selected the worse it is. For ex., select a couple hundred or a thousand points and you better have saved first. This has been happening since at least 2015, probably before that.

I have encountered that as well. My issue is very similar, however it is now happening with all objects for me, not just cogo points.

I have had the Same problem since C3D 2017. 75% of the time after selecting cogo points the The entire Civil 3D Window  appears to go to the background and i have to maximize and minimize to bring it back, frequently causing issues with moving nodes. If i close the properties dialog the problem is resolved but I use the Properties box very often because the layer drop down and other tabs are always so slow.

I have this same issue.  C3D 2018, minor subdivision - 3 roads, many pipe networks. 50% of which are data links.  All files working locally, not operating over network.  My pauses are 20-30secs and mouse lag is ridiculous basically rendering it unworkable.

It seems like these docked menus are weak, not like the old classic menus......sorry reminiscing to a day when sh#t worked!

Give the user who discovered this some kudos, its saved my bacon.

I have figured out a slightly less frustrating work-around by quickly
maximizing and minimizing Civil3d in the task bar. But considering how
much Autodesk charges for their software, you would imagine they would
be a little more on top of bugs like this.

when you do an audit,  how many entities does it have to process.

when mine has well over 100's thousand of entities is when i get the pause with properties window open

7400 items during an audit. I Need to probably rebuild my templates from
scratch. They have been added on too many times over the years with
different versions of civil.

7400 is nothing. that is typ.  if you type -PU and, all,   type -PU again and purge regapps,

doing all for some reason does not do regapps. so you have to do it on its own.

Hi @sscottUPWXC,

In my company lots of modelleurs have encountered the same problem. Unfortunately we were unable to resolve it. We suspect that a Windows 10 framework is not working properly. When we provide the laptop with Windows 10 again and reinstall Civil 3D, everything works as it should again.

Goodluck!

I have had these issues and resolved. my resolution was to first do a purge of regapps and materials. then audit.

if you do audit first it has to audit all the regapps and materials which can take minutes to what I have seen take hours. so do purge first.

that should help with that issue.

next step to take if needed would be to wblock all your information in the drawing.
