Civil 3d crashes upon launch

Hi,

I have Civil 3d 2016 and was using it for some school projects in surveying back around May.  Now, when I attempt to open it, it locks up before it finishes loading.  I made some settings changes a while back to try and fix some issues with another piece of software and I'm afraid I killed the settings that worked for C3D.

Is there a service pack or something that I need to install?  I've already tried to uninstall and reinstall the software and to repair it.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

There's an often missed option for these programs.

Start->all programs->autodesk->civil3d->reset settings to default.

I honestly don't believe reinstallation resolves all issues, as i've encountered many times over that ALL SOFTWARE on windows leaves a heap of junk behind..

Hope you sort it out!

Good day

You can try the following hotfix for AutoCAD based products:

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/search-result/caas/downloads/content/accumulated-hotfix-4-for-autocad...

You can also get all the updates for Civil 3D 2016 here: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad-civil-3d/downloads?release=2016

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the link to the hotfix.  Unfortunately, launching the executable produces a system error involving the MSVCP110.dll file.  It says the file isn't present and Autocad needs to be reinstalled to fix the problem. I've already reinstalled once and haven't had any luck.  Any other suggestions?

I went through and reinstalled all of the Visual C++ files as instructed, but the hotfix still won't launch.  A suggestion that I read was to make sure the .dll file was in the proper location and I found it in the setup file for Autodesk, but I'm still not sure what's going wrong.

Hi Shuan

Just check if the Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Redistributable X86 version is also installed.

I found this article on the Microsoft community forums:  https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-files/missing-msvcp110dll-on-windows-10...

Msvcp110.dll is a type of DLL file associated with Windows 10 developed by Microsoft for the Windows Operating System. This issue could cause if the Msvcp110.dll file might have gone corrupted or not installed successfully.

I would suggest you follow the methods below and check.

Method 1: Check your Recycle bin

Make sure you have not accidentally deleted the msvcp110.dll file. Check your Recycle bin to make sure it's not there. If you find it just restore and see if you get the error again.

If the issue persists, follow method 2.

Method 2:

  1. Click “Start”, type "services.msc" (without quotation marks) in the Search bar and press Enter.
  2. Note: If UAC (User Account Control) window is prompted for permission to continue, please click “Continue”.
  3. Double click “Volume Shadow Copy Service” and switch to “General” tab.
  4. Change the “Startup type” to “Automatic” and click “Apply”.
  5. Click “Start” and click “OK”.

If the issue persists, follow method 3.

Method 3: Download Visual C++ Redistributable

Download Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio from the Official Microsoft website. Install it once download. This step will replace the old corrupted msvcp110.dll file in most cases.

Please post back with the results and the information asked, We will be glad to assist you further.

I hope this helps.

Method 2 failed, but method 3 finally produced results.

I will let you know if I encounter other problems with it as time goes by.

Many Thanks!
